Sun-damaged Skin
Published: 02/09/2010 by Dr. Rajesh Mohan
Summer has finally arrived and many of us are thrilled to be able to sit relax and soak up some wonderful rays after a very long winter. It feels great to sit outdoors and bask in the warmth of the sun, we feel happier and of course we are getting that much needed vitamin D that the sun provides. But you must protect yourself and your family. There are 6 skin cancers alone that are caused, or have their risk increased by exposure to ultra violet light.
Protect
• Use a broad based sunscreen with UVA and UVB, minimum SPF of 30.
• Reapply every 90 minutes and after swimming or heavy sweating.
• Use lip sunscreen or zinc oxide. The sun is strongest between 10am and 4pm. Stay in or stay covered to keep safe.
• Do not be tricked by cloudy days as UV can burn your skin right through the clouds.
Treat
Sun damaged skin can be revitalized and have the signs of aging reversed with today?s products and technology. Products that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid are great to improve the appearance of skin as well as IPL Laser and Fraxel Treatments.
